Thanks to the generous support of The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, Kids for Peace was able to pilot The Grandfriends Kindness Project—a free, monthly intergenerational event—in both 2019/2020 and again in 2024/2025.
Between September and June, groups of youth would meet at various senior homes around Carlsbad and engage in acts of kindness with the residents at each facility. The acts of kindness were seasonal (considering monthly holidays and observations), which added a sense of merriment to an already joy-filled experience. These sweet and heartfelt gatherings sparked meaningful connections between seniors and youth, all through the simple yet powerful act of kindness.
We’d love to invite you to bring this joyful experience to your own community!
While the above describes how we ran the pilot program, The Grandfriends Kindness Project is designed to be flexible and adaptable to your community’s unique needs. You might choose to focus on a single senior home rather than visiting several, or switch up the kind acts each month to keep things fresh and fun. However you choose to shape it, the connections you create between generations will not just be joyful, but truly meaningful.

The Grandfriends Kindness Project is a yearlong intergenerational program that connects younger and older citizens, offering an uplifting opportunity to work together to create a culture of kindness, courtesy and connection.
Both youth and seniors are suffering from anxiety, depression and isolation.
US Surgeon General Murthy declared that we are living through an “epidemic of loneliness.” To address this epidemic, Dr. Murthy stated that we must “cultivate values of kindness, respect, service and commitment to one another.” That’s exactly what we’re doing!
